Week 6 Winners

So last week, my first week, wasn’t too bad. I give myself a record of 5-4-5. As in, I had 5 clear winners, 4 guys you could have done without and 5 guys that met normal expectations. A broken clock is right twice a day right?

So let’s try and do a bit better this week. This season is tough to predict. I wouldn’t say that there is a clear Super Bowl favorite.

Ravens at Colts:
Last weekend the Colts got lucky with their win and Steve Slaton had a stunning game, as predicted, so this week I’m going to say, play LeRon McClain. The guy will get his opportunities on the goal line and the Colts still can’t stop the run. The Ravens officially announced that Flaco is the starting QB for the rest of the year, but it’s the running game that is going to win it for the Colts. McClain is good for at least one score.

Lions at Vikings:
It’s like a riddle on a popsicle. “How many games in a row can Adrian Peterson struggle” and the answer is something comical like “Zero, As long as he is playing the Lions”. You chuckle and wonder why you couldn’t have figured it out yourself. You also turn to this column and wonder why you were ever contemplating playing AP. The guy will go off this week. 20 fantasy points is not out of the realm.

Raiders at Saints:
Depending on how your fantasy league works, you may have been thankful to play Reggie Bush last week. This week though I am going to actually going to go out on a limb and say, play JaMarcus Russell. New coach, new attitude, and the Saints defense isn’t anything spectacular. Russell can put up decent points for a quarterback. Aside from the week 2 debacle, he is averaging 15 fantasy points a game. I’d give him the green light this week.

Bengals at Jets:

Last week Mr. Ocho Cinco promised a touchdown and didn’t come through. I think it is about time that Chad Johnson put his money where his mouth is. The Jets defense is nothing special and it’s not unlikely that the Bengals can put up 35 points. It’s just a matter of time and now is the time. Chad Johnson finally comes alive and shows us one unique touchdown dance. You don’t get the points though for the dance.

Bears at Falcons:

Ugh, I really have to pick someone for this game? I mean last week I picked the kicker and he had a great day. This week though I will take Matt Ryan. He does well when he is at home (0 interceptions in 2 games). He has the running and passing combo working for him in order to keep the Bears defense on their toes. Matty Ice will pull out the ‘upset’ win on Sunday.

Panthers at Buccaneers:
Can I pick the Panthers D/ST again this week? I could, but I won’t. Instead I’ll go with the Panthers QB Jake Delhomme. Delhomme will be able to pass in and out versus the Buccaneers Defense. Steve Smith and Mushin Muhammad will make the defense look silly. Maybe people should start paying more attention to Carolina. A win versus the Bucs and they are up in the division by two games. I don’t know if that means anything in this division.

Rams at Redskins:
Is anyone willing to give the Skins credit yet? Well, I’ll jump on the bandwagon this weekend and say that Clinton Portis has a monster game. I love the Rams and think that they could put up 40 any given Sunday, but right now it is the quiet Redskins putting up the points. Portis has had back to back 100 yard games and the Rams won’t stop him from making it three. On the side, take the over in this game also. Portis has 150 and a score under his belt.

Dolphins at Texans:
From the department of “I’ve never heard of him before” you should probably get to know Greg Camarillo. I bet you that he is a free agent in your league and you should maybe pick him up. The Dolphins have beaten the Chargers and the Patriots in the same year. I know, say what you want about both teams but Camarillo is quietly emerging as Pennington’s go to guy. The Texans showed little life on defense last weekend, so I’m sure the Dolphins will exploit that this weekend.

Jaguars at Broncos:
Going back to that same ‘department’ I offer two players for this game. Mercedes Lewis, TE for the Jaguars, and Brandon Stokley, WR for the Broncos. Lewis is might TE pick this week. He is doing his business and caught his first touchdown last week. Another one is in the cards as the Broncos weak linebacking core cannot stop the 10 yard in routes. Meanwhile, Stokley is stepping in for Eddie Royal possibly this week. We know Cutler loves to pass, in fact he said recently that he has a better arm than John Elway in his prime. Stokley will likely be the beneficiary of that arm this week.

Eagles at 49ers:
With Westbrook questionable this week and McNabb speaking out about his team, I’ll turn to the 49ers again this week. Issac Bruce had a great week last week and should continue the theme on Sunday. The Eagles have a mediocre secondary and seem to give up the long ball at least once a game. Bruce will bring fantasy owners back to the days of the “Greatest Show On Turf” with an impressive performance again in Week 6.

Packers at Seahawks:
Ok, one player I was wrong on last weekend was Matt Hasselback, but he was injured. But that is no excuse for the Seahawks giving up an infinite number of points. So this week, Rodgers or not, play Greg Jennings. Domenik Hixon went crazy last week, and Jennings might be the best WR in the NFL right now. This is simple. Worst case scenario he scores a touchdown and only has 5 catches. Worst case.

Cowboys at Cardinals:

Is the over in this game 84? If that means anything, I think you should take someone who will touch the ball a lot. Mr. Hightower will be that guy. 5 touchdowns in 5 weeks should say something about him. Goal line back or not, he gets plenty of opportunities. You know that the Cowboys defense will give up yards, it’s just a matter of how the Cardinals punch it into the end zone.

Patriots at Chargers:
There seems to be a rivalry brewing here. Both teams recently lost to the lowly Dolphins as well. So one team makes a stand this weekend with their defense. I’m going with the Patriots D/ST to shut down the injured LT and the inept Chargers offense. The Patriots spent the week on the West Coast getting ready for this game and I think it is personal. The Patriots are suddenly a normal team in the NFL but it isn’t because of their QB, rather a lot of people are saying, including myself, that the defense is weak. Time to hush those naysayers.

Giants at Browns:
Brandon Jacobs please stand up and continue running. Not only did the passing game flourish last week but so did Jacobs and his 2 TDs. You really think that the Browns are much better at stopping the run? Put Jacobs in and watch him tally at least one score. He has been up and down on the total yardage but it seems likely that a good fantasy point day is in the works on Monday Night to save your team.

Visanthe Shiancoe, really? That was my attitude last week. I must say, nicely done. You gained a lot of street cred in my book with that pick.

Thank you Sir,

It's a start. We'll see how I do this week with some of the minor names. Don't play Shiancoe this week though. I mean even Jerry Porter is right once every three years.
