The Mulligan: The Bob Hope Chrysler Classic

[Editor's Note: The first sign that Spring is finally approaching has to be when commercials for The Masters begin to pop up on TV. Whether you're a weekend hacker or you just signed up for Fantasy Golf, SportsJudge has you covered. You can find golf expert Chris Stanley's preview each Wednesday at 1pm]

This week’s tournament is the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic played at the PGA West, Palmer Course in La Quinta, California. This tournament is one of my favorites. Where else can you find the likes of Dan Quayle, Bo Jackson and Alice Cooper all in the same place? That is a pretty diverse group. Imagine some of the conversations that must take place during the Pro-Am. The fun Wednesday parings include Corey Pavin and Dan Quayle as well as Mark Calcavecchia and Alice Cooper.

Aside from the celebrity appeal, the quality of play is always high as well. Justin Leonard is my pick to win this week in La Quinta. He won the tournament in 2005 and typically plays well at the Bob Hope. Coming off a second place finish last year in the tournament and a strong start to 2009 (5th place at the Mercedes), Leonard is poised to hoist the cup on Sunday and score some fantasy points.

If that’s not enough to get you excited about this week's tournament, representatives from the Classic will donate nearly 2 million dollars to local charities. The Bob Hope team has always given generously, and will continue to do so this year.

This week will bring a great combination of celebrity star-power, laughs, charitable giving, and best of all, great golf. What more could you ask for?

Will Charles Barkley be making an appearance? I'd keep him away from John Daly.

Sadly, neither Barkley nor Daly are in the field this week. I think they are looking for Dan Quayle's Potatoes.
