Where Are They Now: Scott Brosius

In honor of A-Rod's hip injury that will now sideline him for the next 10 weeks, thereby making the impressive Cody Rasmus the new starting 3B of the Yankees, it is the perfect time to hear what Scott Brosius has been up to in the Where Are They Now segment.

Brosius has a slow start to his career before becoming a mainstay at third base for the Yankees during their 3 consecutive championships. Brosius played the first seven years of his career with the Oakland Athletics, really only having one big season in 1996 when he hit.304 with 22 HRs and 71 RBIs. The final year in Oakland for Brosius was the worst of his career hitting only .203 with 11 HRs and 41 RBIs, but some how he was lucky enough to parlay that into becoming the starting third basemen of the New York Yankees.

The Yankees were able to acquire Brosius as a player to be named later in the trade of Kenny Rogers to Oakland. In his first year with the Yankees (1998), Brosius made his only all star game, while hitting .300 with 19 HRS and 98 RBIs and topped it all off by winning the World Series MVP. Brosius helped lead the Yankees during the sweep with a .471 batting avg., 2 HRs and 6 RBIs. In total Brosius played 4 years with the Yankees and made the World Series in all 4 seasons (3-1 record). Brosius symbolizes the difference between the Yankees of the championship years, filled with role players who just knew how to win, with the Yankees of the recent down fall, filled with overpriced all-stars who only play for themselves. Brosius retired after losing to the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2001 World Series.

So Where Are You Now Scott Brosius?

Brosius has taken up coaching in his retirement with his alma mater, Linfield College. Linfield College is a small Division III school located in McMinnville, Oregon. Brosius is starting his second year as head coach after five years as an assistant. Good luck Scott and if that doesn't work maybe that 3B job with the Yankees will still be open.
