The Mulligan: Fantasy Golf Picks for the Valero Texas Open

If you followed The Mulligan's advice last week, you likely saw another spike in your fantasy golf rankings. Henrik Stenson pulled out the win, while Jeff Klauk finished in the top 15. That is 2 winners in the past 4 weeks, and 5 players in the top 15 in the past 2 weeks. Lets see if we can keep it up. This week the Tour heads to San Antonio for the Valero Texas Open. Here are some players that I think should play well this week and would make solid fantasy golf picks.

Justin Leonard has a lot going for him this week. He has won this tournament 3 times, and has finished in the top 25 in nine out of eleven starts here. He is the fan favorite at this tournament, having played his college golf just around the corner at Texas. He already has 3 top ten finishes this season, and this should be another good week for Leonard.

Zach Johnson is the defending champion of the Valero so we know he can win here. He already has a victory this year at the Sony Open, and he is currently 6th in the FedEx Cup Standings. Look for Johnson to have a good week.

Finally, Charlie Hoffman and his blonde locks are worthy of a start this week. Hoffman has made 20 consecutive cuts, and plays well here (2 top 15 finishes). He is currently 18th in FedEx Cup points, and he has four top 15 finishes in 2009.

I dont recommend starting him, but watch out for Steve Elkington. He shot a 61 here last year on Sunday to rally his way up the leaderboard to a T-28 finish. Elkington can go low on this course, and if he has it going this week maybe he can repeat that performance.

Good luck this week and lets keep moving to the top of the fantasy golf rankings!
