Fantasy Hockey Pickups: Week 7

Welcome to Week 7 of Fantasy Hockey Pickups. The second quarter of the season is underway. At this point, you should have a good idea of who will be on your squad and should keep your eye on the waiver wire for those injury fill-ins. Here are some players that I think you may want to consider, just in case you need to pick someone up.

Fowards
Mikko Koivu - C - (MIN): Mikko Koivu had 1G, 4A, 4PIM, 2PPP, 1GWG, and was a +4 last week. Overall he has 5G, 13A, 10PPP, and 1GWG. Koivu sees plenty of time on the PP and has capitalized with 10PPP. His +/- rating is a bit shaky at -6, but recently has been improving on that stat. He is available in 28% of Yahoo Leagues.
Ryan Malone - LW - (TB): Ryan Malone had 2G, 1A, 4PIM, 1PPP, and was a +2 last week. Overall he has 12G, 5A, 4PPP, 8PIM, 4GWG, and is a +6. Malone scored 10 points in his last 7 games and is on quite a hot streak now. Malone should be strongly considered if available. He is only available in 30% of Yahoo Leagues.
Rich Peverley - C - (ATL): Rich Peverley had 1G, 5A, 2PPP, and was a +2 last week. Overall he has 8G, 15A, 10PIM, 8PPP, 3GWG, and is a +5. Peverley has been moved up to play wing on the 2nd line and has been able to increase his offensive output. Look for his production to continue with this move. He is available in 41% of Yahoo Leagues.
David Clarkson - RW - (NJ): David Clarkson had 2G, 4PIM, 1GWG, and was a +2 last week. Overall he has 6G, 8A, 5PPP, 31PIM, and 2GWG. Clarkson provides fantasy owners with both offensive and PIM points on a daily basis. He is available in 45% of Yahoo Leagues.
Andy McDonald - C,LW - (STL): Andy McDonald had 1G, 3A, 1PPP, and was a +2 last week. Overall he has 6G, 6A, 5PPP, and 49 SOG. McDonald recently made the transition from LW back to C on a line with David Perron and Brad Boyes. In his last game he had a team high 6 SOG. He seems to be taking more shots with the move and hopefully that can lead to more points. He is available in 67% of Yahoo Leagues.
Maxim Afinogenov - RW - (ATL): Maxim Afinogenov had 4G, 2A, 2PPP, and was +4 last week. Overall he has 7G, 10A, 6PPP, and 10PIM. Afinogenov has had a great start to the season thus far and looks to surpass his point totals from the last 2 years in Buffalo. The change in environment seems to have done him good and as long as he stays healthy, should be able to put up some decent numbers. He is available in 73% of Yahoo Leagues.
Danny Cleary - RW - (DET): Danny Cleary had 2G, 3A, 4PIM, 2PPP, and was a +7 last week. Overall he has 4G, 7A, 6PIM, and 4PPP. Cleary has been moved onto a line with Henrik Zetterberg, and that will give him a lot of chances to produce. He is available in 73% of Yahoo Leagues.
Evander Kane - LW - (ATL): Evander Kane had 3G, 2A, 2GWG, and was a +3 last week. Overall he has 6G, 5A, 3GWG, 12PIM, and is a +9. Kane has 11 points so far this year with 3GWG. He is available in 87% of Yahoo Leagues.
Trent Hunter - RW - (NYI): Trent Hunter had 2G, 1A, 1PPP, and was a +3 last week. Overall he has 3G, 2A, and 2PPP in just 5 games after missing the first 15 with a chest injury. In just 5 games this year, Hunter has 5 points with 2PPP. He is available in 98% of Yahoo Leagues.

Defensemen
Zach Bogosian - D - (ATL): Zach Bogosian had 2G, 1PPP, 9PIM, and was a +3 last week. Overall he has 8G, 3PPP, and 25PIM. Bogosian is tied for the league lead with 8G for defensemen. He is available in 29% of Yahoo Leagues.
Erik Johnson - D - (STL): Erik Johnson had 1G, 2A, and 1PPP last week. Overall he has 1G, 11A, 4PPP, 10PIM, and was a +3. Johnson is a great set-up man and can provide plenty of assists from the blue-line. He is available in 47% of Yahoo Leagues.
Andy Greene - D - (NJ): Andy Greene had 1G, 2A, 1PPP, 1GWG, and was a +5 last week. Overall he has 3G, 6A, 6PPP, 2GWG, and is a +6. Greene is definitely on a hot streak right now. He is available in 92% of Yahoo Leagues.
Keith Yandle - D - (PHO): Keith Yandle had 2A and was a +2 last week. Overall he has 2G, 6A, 4PPP, 23PIM, and is a +4. With 3 defensemen out with injuries in Phoenix Yandle will see a lot more ice time in every situation. Yandle should be considered while the other defensemen are out of action. He is available in 88% of Yahoo Leagues.
Marc-Andre Bergeron - D - (MON): Marc- Andre Bergeron had 1G, 2A, 1PPP, 2PIM, and was a +2 last week. Overall he has 3G, 3A, 4PPP, 6PIM, and 1GWG. Beregeron will give you some offensive numbers, his overall +/- rating is of concern, but lately he has been improving in that category. He is available in 92% of Yahoo Leagues.

Goalies
Pekka Rinne - G - (NSH): Pekka Rinne had 2W, 0.50 GAA, .976SV%, and 1SO last week. Rinne has really picked it up after a slow start. If he is still available out there because a disgruntled owner dropped him early, now would be a good time to grab him while he is hot. He is only available in 31% of Yahoo Leagues.
