Enough of the small talk and introductions, here's what you need to know.
Colts at Texans:
This is a toss up. When you look at the spread of this game, the Colts are only favored by 3 over, what looks to be on paper, an inept team. But is there a reason that the spread is only 3? Might it be Steve Slaton? The Colts have yet to allow a passing touchdown this year and Andre Johnson has poor numbers in his career against the Colts, so Slaton has to be the difference maker. In standard scoring leagues, the past two weeks have been a feast for Slaton, doing it on the ground and receiving as well. He amassed 17 points last week while only rushing for 33 yards. Obviously it is time to take notice and start him versus a Bob Sanders-less Colts team. There is a reason that this image is on the Texans homepage.
Titans at Ravens:
For this game I’m going with rookie running back Chris Johnson. If he can score two TDs against the Vikings, he should be able to score with anyone. Consider last week a breakout week for you if you had him on your team, but many, like myself, had him on the bench. Why take anymore chances? LenDale White is the goal line back for now, but with Johnson a threat to break off a long run at any moment, TDs will come more frequently. The Monkey is off the back.
Chargers at Dolphins:
Since when has Phillip Rivers been known to throw the ball? This is a guy who you could count on for 15-20, 190 yards, 1 TD. This year already Rivers has thrown for 200+ yards in three games and each game he threw for over 200, he also threw for 3 TDs. Look into my crystal ball and I can see another 3 TDs. It’s the Dolphins this week and Rivers is no Matt Cassel. Last weekend was a fluke versus the Raiders, the Dolphins won’t be much of a problem for Rivers.
Chiefs at Panthers:
It would be easy to say that Larry Johnson is going to do the same this week as he did last, but not so fast. Johnson is a shell of his former self and this Panthers defense is much better than the Broncos. That’s why I am going with the Panthers D/ST to have a big week this week. Sure Delhomme will get 250 and 2 TDs, but the defense will create problems for both the run and the pass. Quickly, name that starting quarterback for the Chiefs? This week it is Damon Huard again, and he is in the basement along with Joe Flacco as far as producing numbers goes. Panther’s D/ST records their first TD this week.
Redskins at Eagles:
I’m sorry, have you not noticed Santana Moss this year? Did he have a ‘quiet’ 145 yards last weekend because he didn’t catch a touchdown? I remember doing my fantasy draft with my buddies this year and when Moss was snagged, another guy yelled over, “Good luck, he stunk for me last year!” If
Bears at Lions:
Has ever a kicker been worth fantasy attention? Well in this game, yes. A good kicker can easily get you 10+ points a game, which is the same amount as your second receiver most weeks. Robbie Gould is just 7 for 8 this year but you can expect two things this weekend versus the Lions. Either A) The Bears score a lot of points because of the weak defense and thus Gould gets his kicks, or B) The Bears struggle when in the redzone because of a poor offense and thus Gould gets his kicks. It’s a win-win. If you don’t trust a kicker worth taking, then play Forte for the same reasons.
Falcons at Packers:
Who knows what’s really up with Aaron Rodgers’ shoulder? Heck, I sleep on my side at night and wake up with a sore shoulder. But what I do know is that Ryan Grant has yet to score a TD this year and the Packers are playing against a weak Falcons team on the road. Sure he had an abysmal week last week with 20 yards on 15 carries, and he is yet to eclipse the century mark in yards in a game, but they are playing those Falcons.
Seahawks at Giants:
Last we saw the Seahawks and Giants was in week 3. Since then the Giants have lost their key receiver and the Seahawks have gained two. I’d go with Matt Hasselback to have a big week this week. Yes, the Giants secondary is pretty solid this year, but you have to feel that Hasselback will look and feel like a kid on Christmas morning with all his new toys. Deion Branch and Bobby Engram are not going to be at 100% but for Hasselback, that is still better than what he has been working with. Note: Hasselback has yet to throw for 200 yards in a game this year. It has to change.
Buccaneers at Broncos:
Earnest Graham is surprisingly picking up where he left off last year. He is sharing the ball more this year with Warrick Dunn, but is still the feature back in this ‘passing’ offense. The Broncos have a soft defense but a strong offense. You saw what Larry Johnson did to the Broncos last week, so who’s to say that Graham can’t do the same? I’m sure it’s the gameplan this week for the Bucs; get Graham the ball. He has an outstanding YPC, averaging 5.85, and when you take away the game in which Griese threw every play, Graham is averaging over 7 YPC.
Patriots at 49ers:
I’m going with Frank Gore on this one. He has been the most consistent running back it seems. Last we heard of the Patriots, they had given up four rushing touchdowns to
Bills at Cardinals:
Did you not see Brett Favre and Laveraneus Coles last week? Or even Cotchery? How about Trent Edwards doing the same this week? You might as well play sleeper wide receiver Josh Reed. The kid is good and has yet to get his touchdown. He is steadily becoming more involved in the offense and is more reliable in big situations. I know Edwards is no Favre, but Reed can be a Coles.
Bengals at Cowboys:
Please, this game screams for you to play Marion Barber. The Bengals are atrocious, period. Marion Barber had a stifled week last week because of T.O screaming for the ball every play. The Cowboys have to get back to the basics. Just look at Barber’s numbers aside from last week’s game and you’ll know that he is a force will most likely be the leading fantasy point-getter this week.
Steelers at Jaguars:
I don’t know, when you look at these two teams, no one player jumps out at you. So you could take either defense in a low scoring affair or you could make sure that you have Santonio Holmes starting for you this week. Holmes got his first TD last week but only caught three balls. I’m looking for Holmes to continue with last week’s score and improve with at least a half-dozen grabs, which would be a season high for him. It looks as if he has surpassed Hines Ward as the No. 1 option for Big Ben the past two weeks. If only Holmes to bring in every ball thrown his way. Expect a big play catch this week.
Vikings at Saints:
I’m going out on a limb on this Monday Night Game. This is for everyone looking for a fill in at Tight End. When Todd Heap just isn’t covering it anymore, look to Visanthe Shiancoe. I figure this game to be a great game and plenty of scoring opportunities. When the Saints stack the box in the redzone against Adrian Peterson, a nice play-action dump to Shiancoe will give your fantasy team much needed points. Yah, you can go with Brees, Bush, or Peterson for this game, but as far as biggest fantasy impact, I’d take Shiancoe.
I'm Out like Travis Henry
